Things to Do

Most people come for the beach and end up staying for the water. Here's what we actually do round here.

Get on the water

  • Funsport, 1 Beach Terrace. It's been trading since 1995 and does tuition and rental in wing foiling, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and surfing. Funsport hosts the BWA Rhosneigr Wave Classic when the forecast allows.
  • Gecko, on the High Street. A family-run surf shop with surf and paddleboard lessons for every level, plus wetsuit and board hire. Book ahead or just pop in.

Beaches

  • At the southern end of Traeth Crigyll, Afon Crigyll is a good paddling spot for little ones, and the rockpools hide anemones and hermit crabs.
  • Dogs: Rhosneigr isn't one of the seven beaches where the council bans dogs from May to September, so they're welcome all year. Always pick up.

Golf and padel

  • The Anglesey Golf Club, Station Road. They bill it as the only links course on Anglesey: carved out of heathland and dunes, with no winter greens, so it's open all year. Book online, and afterwards the clubhouse lounge looks out across the course.
  • Rhosneigr Sports Club, opposite the golf club. It has had a padel court since August 2025, booked on the Playtomic app, with rackets to hire from the on-site vending machine. There's tennis too, and the club has applied to build a second padel court.

Barclodiad y Gawres

A Neolithic passage tomb on the cliffs above Porth Trecastell. Inside are five stones carved with zigzags and spirals, and the only other UK tomb with art like it is Bryn Celli Ddu, across the island.

  • Entry is free, and you can see the outside all year. Cadw runs guided tours inside on selected summer dates.
  • Park at Porth Trecastell, and take care on the lower coastal path, which Cadw warns is affected by erosion. The walk there is in our walks guide.

Motorsport at Trâc Môn

Anglesey Circuit at Ty Croes was built in 2007 into the rolling coastline.

  • Spectators follow the pedestrian walkway anticlockwise to watch the cars come at them head-on.
  • The big one is the Race of Remembrance, held each November around Remembrance Sunday. It's a 12-hour endurance race that pauses for a Remembrance Sunday service in the pit lane, raising money for Mission Motorsport. Admission is free.
  • The Caernarvonshire & Anglesey Motor Club also runs rallies here, and the circuit's events page lists drifting and track days too.

Plane spotting at RAF Valley

You'll hear them before you see them. RAF Valley trains the UK's fast jet pilots in Hawk T2 jets and Texan T1 turboprops, and it flies Juno and Jupiter helicopters too.

  • The official viewing area is near the railway bridge, opposite the main gate (LL65 3NX). The Valley Aviation Society cabin there opens from Easter through the summer, and its proceeds go to the base's charities.
  • Night flying usually runs Monday to Thursday when needed, and the base gives notice on its Facebook page.

Llyn Maelog

The lake on the edge of the village is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and it has had village green status since 2011. The loop path is in our walks guide.

Where can I hire a surfboard or paddleboard in Rhosneigr?
Funsport on Beach Terrace and Gecko on the High Street both hire boards and wetsuits and run lessons.
Are there sports or community venues in Rhosneigr?
Rhosneigr Sports Club on Station Road and Rhosneigr Village Hall on the high street are both active directory listings in the activities category. Each listing carries the address and contact details if you want to know what is on at either venue.
